The Tinderspark FRPG is being designed. So far, I have a half dozen pieces of paper covered in scribbles and two characters: a melancholic, blood-thirsty werewolf and a fastidious, wide-eyed poet.
It's agreed we need to follow the list-of-six system that worked so nicely for Horror of Cthulhu (check out the site) so the six core 'Virtues' will be:
It's agreed we need to follow the list-of-six system that worked so nicely for Horror of Cthulhu (check out the site) so the six core 'Virtues' will be:
- Faith: a Virtue that governs the use of your Gift but also acts as a boost for other activities
- Curiosity: intellectual activity, perceptiveness, open-mindedness and alertness
- Hate: aggression, physical courage, combat ability and willingness to hurt and get hurt
- Honour: social poise, status and the values that contribute to these, such as manners, morals and self-control
- Love: empathy, imagination, affection and ties to other people
- Lust: desire, physicality and determination
There will also be a list of six static bonuses, called 'Tempers':
There's the 'character sheet' over on the right. You'll see it looks a bit like a pentagram. Very witchy! You'll see the Virtues and Tempers are also colour-coded. That's going to be important too, but more on that later.
The mechanic will be a 'Yahtzee' system: roll d6 dice equal to the relevant Virtue, looking for the overall highest score or the sum of any dice that come up the same, then add a number equal to the relevant Temper
As you can see, the emphasis in the Tinderspark FRPG is on romantic motivation. Breaking down a door would involve Curiosity/Might if you are exploring an empty abbey, or Hate/Might if your enemy is on the other side, or Love/Might if you are rescuing your friend.
- Craft: your ability to plan, create or build anything, from a house to a dinner, a battle plan or an opera
- Dream: your ability to manage yourself and your own reactions and responses; used in most attempts to protect or change yourself
- Guile: your ability to deceive or conceal; used for stealth and pretense
- Might: your overall physique; used for lifting, jumping, running and falling over
- Speed: your reaction time, agility and dexterity combined
- Sight: your alertness; used for aiming, searching and sensing your environment
